If you have never attended a Church of Christ service before, it is normal to feel unsure about what to expect. Many people are curious but hesitate because they do not want to feel awkward or out of place. Quiet questions often surface. Will I know what to do? Will I feel welcome? Will I stand out?
Those questions make sense. Visiting a church can be a vulnerable experience, especially if faith is new or unfamiliar. At North Pointe Church of Christ in Sachse, we want you to know that uncertainty is not a barrier. Many of us remember standing in that same place, hoping to find a space that felt calm, genuine, and welcoming.
Our worship is intentionally simple. The goal is not to impress or overwhelm, but to create a space for drawing near to God together, reflecting on Scripture, and growing in faith over time.
What it feels like when you arrive
Upon arrival at North Pointe, you will typically be greeted near the entrance or in the lobby. The greeting is friendly and unhurried, meant to help you feel oriented rather than put on the spot. If you have questions, someone can help you find the worship space or point you in the right direction. If you prefer to come in quietly and find a seat on your own, that is entirely okay.
Before worship begins, people often talk with one another, catch up on the week, or grab a cup of coffee and a donut. Some linger and visit. Others head straight to their seat and take a moment to settle in. There is no expectation to do either. Everyone arrives carrying different weeks and different needs.
Once worship begins, you are free to sit, listen, and observe. You will not be asked to introduce yourself publicly or participate in anything that makes you uncomfortable. Services typically last about an hour and move at a calm, steady pace.
What happens during worship
One of the first things people notice in a Church of Christ service is the singing. At North Pointe, we sing without musical instruments. This a cappella singing reflects a long-standing practice within Churches of Christ, focusing on voices joined together rather than performance. Some people sing confidently, others quietly, and some simply listen. All are welcome.
Prayer and Scripture are woven throughout the service. Different members may lead prayers, offering words of gratitude, reflection, and trust in God. Scripture is read aloud, grounding worship in God’s Word and reminding us of His presence and faithfulness.
The sermon is rooted in Scripture and speaks to everyday life. Teaching is thoughtful and encouraging, not pressure-filled. It is an invitation to reflect on who God is and how faith shapes our lives.
Communion is observed every Sunday as a quiet time of remembrance using bread and grape juice. You are welcome to participate or to simply observe. No one will draw attention to your choice. Giving is also part of worship, offered quietly by members as an act of gratitude. Visitors are never expected to give.
A place to grow together
Children are welcome at North Pointe Church of Christ. Many families worship together, and children are an integral part of our church’s life. During the Bible class hour, children and teens gather in age-appropriate classes where they learn Scripture in ways that meet them where they are. We understand that children bring noise and movement, and that grace is part of worship.
If you are new to the Church of Christ, you do not need to have everything figured out. Many attendees are exploring their faith, returning after a time away, or coming from diverse backgrounds. You do not need to know when to stand or sit or what words to say. You are free to listen, reflect, and take things at your own pace.
At North Pointe, our mission is to become like Christ together, growing in love, faith, and service. Faith here is not about perfection. It is about walking alongside one another, trusting God, and making room for grace as we grow.
If you choose to visit, know that you are welcome just as you are. There is room here to listen, to rest, and to walk the journey of faith together.
