What does it mean to become like Christ together?

At North Pointe Church of Christ, our mission is simple but deeply meaningful: Becoming Like Christ, Together. Growing in Love, Faith, and Service.

Those words guide how we worship, how we relate to one another, and how we live out our faith in everyday life. However, they can also raise honest questions, especially for those who are new to the church or are still exploring their faith. What does it actually mean to become like Christ? And why does doing it together matter so much?

This phrase is not meant to sound lofty or unreachable. It describes a way of walking through life and faith that is patient, communal, and rooted in grace.

Becoming like Christ is a lifelong process

When we talk about becoming like Christ, it can be tempting to think in terms of behavior or performance. But Jesus was always more concerned with the condition of the heart. He showed us what love looks like through humility, compassion, forgiveness, and faithfulness.

Growing into that kind of life happens slowly. It happens in quiet decisions, honest prayers, and moments when we choose grace over pride. None of us reflects Christ perfectly, and that is not the expectation. What matters is our willingness to keep walking toward Him, even when growth feels uneven.

God’s grace gives us room to grow. “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love” (Psalm 145:8). That patience shapes the way we understand our own journey of faith.

Faith was never meant to be lived alone

The word “together” is essential. Faith was not designed to be lived in isolation. From the early church onward, believers gathered, worshiped, learned, and served alongside one another. Community was not optional; it was foundational.

Walking together means we support one another through different seasons. Some of us feel strong in our faith right now. Others may feel tired, uncertain, or disconnected. Together, we remind one another of hope. We encourage one another when the road feels heavy. We learn what it means to love as Christ loves by practicing that love within the church family.

At North Pointe Church of Christ, we believe becoming like Christ happens best when we walk together honestly, patiently, and with grace.

Growing in love, faith, and service

Our mission names three areas where this growth takes shape.

Growing in love means learning to care for others with kindness and humility. It means listening well, forgiving freely, and choosing compassion even when it is hard.

Growing in faith means learning to trust God more deeply over time. Faith grows through prayer, Scripture, questions, and shared experiences. It is strengthened as we lean on God in both joyful and challenging seasons.

Growing in service means allowing our faith to move outward. Service reminds us that faith is not only something we believe, but something we live. Serving together shapes our hearts and keeps us grounded in the example of Christ.

Walking the journey

Becoming like Christ together is not a destination we reach. It is a way of living and growing, side by side, over time. There will be seasons of clarity and seasons of struggle. In all of them, God remains faithful.

Wherever you find yourself today, there is room to belong, to grow, and to walk this journey with others. Faith was never meant to be carried alone, and God’s grace meets us every step of the way.

At North Pointe Church of Christ, we are grateful to walk that path together.
